Alagappa University is located on about 420 acres (1.7 km2) in the business town of Karaikudi in Sivaganga District in Tamil Nadu, India. Karaikudi is 400 km south of Madras on the Madras–Rameswaram line and is accessible from Tiruchirappalli and Madurai in about 2 hours by road and rail. This seat of higher education has emerged from the galaxy of institutions founded by R.M. Alagappa Chettiar. Alagappa University was brought into existence by a special Act of the state government in May 1985 with the objective of fostering research, development, and dissemination of knowledge in various branches of learning. Alagappa University is recognized by the UGC, Government of India. Alagappa University was converted from unitary type to an affiliating type by the Tamil Nadu Universities Act, 2002, with a view to widen the horizon of its academic activities by bringing into its jurisdiction the Arts and Science colleges in the districts of Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga. Further, as per this Act, the Government colleges in the above districts have become the constituent colleges of Alagappa University. As a member of the AIU and the ACU(ACU), it has rewarding relations with other academic institutions, research laboratories and industrial establishments that promise a spectacular feature. The University’s motto is “Excellence in Action.”

Sri Konijeti Rosaiah was born on 4th July, 1933 in a middle class agricultural family from Vemuru in Guntur District. He graduated in Commerce from Hindu College, Guntur.HELD THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS:
Elected as General Secretary, Students Union of Hindu College, Guntur in 1952.
He was first elected as Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council in 1968 and re-elected in 1974 & 1980.
Acted as Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. From 1977-79.
He was the Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council from 1978 to May, 1979 and again from 1983 to till the abolition of Legislative Council in 1985.
Held the Portfolio as Minister for Roads & Buildings in the Cabinet of Dr.M.Chenna Reddy from 1979-80.

Dr.V.MANICKAVASAGAM, M.Com.,M.B.A.,M.Phil.,M.Ed.,Ph.D.,P.G.D.C.A is the Controller of Examinations from 2007 onwards. Having served in college and University for the past 29 years in various capacities as Lecturer, Reader and Professor he had industrial experience for one year in N.L.C Ltd., Neyveli.
Research Guidance
With his rich experience in teaching he has so far guided 30 Ph.D scholars and 80 M.Phil scholars on various topics of Corporate Law, Corporate Finance, Corporate Accounting and Corporate Management. Currently he is supervising 7 Ph.D. Scholars.
Publications
He has published 110 articles and research papers in journals and business newspapers of good repute. To mention a few, are chartered secretary, Indian Journal of Marketing, Journal of Manpower, Indian Journal of Public Administration, Southern Economist. He has authored two books and eight distance education study materials. He has also reviewed eight books so far.

Prof. Manickavasagam as Controller of Examinations has introduced many reforms such as

Thiru U. RAVISANKAR, a Deputy Director on deputation from the Local Fund Audit Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, he was previously Assistant Director of Local Fund Audit, Madurai District and Sivagangai District. He has thirty years of experience in the field of Accounts and Audit in various public institutions viz. Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai Corporation, Tamil Nadu Housing Board, Tamil Nadu Slumclearence Board and other Local Authorities. NSS
Alagappa University has been continuously in NSS since its inception with the major objective of providing ample opportunities to the youths to involve themselves in social activities and ultimately developing their personality. 4200 NSS volunteers from 21 affiliated colleges and university departments are actively participating in all NSS activities of Alagappa University. NSS takes streneous efforts to inculcate in the minds of the students the voluntary participation in community service while they are studying in educational institutions.
Every year elocution and essay competitions are organized on personality development, leadership development and national integration to motivate students and to build leadership and communication abilities.
A ten day special camp is organized every year. Developing infrastructure in the adopted village, leadership programme, tree planting, medical camp, progarmme on preserving water resources, voters awareness, free legal - aid awareness, women and children welfare are the important activities undertaken by students in the special camping programme. Students' cultural progrmame forms part of special camping activities.
