Graduate School of Education
The Graduate School of Education offers a traditional master’s degree program while the Graduate School for Professionals in Education offers a program for current teaching professionals.
In 2008 the master’s degree program underwent some key changes when the Course in Education and the Course in Special Education were reorganized and the Supporting Psychological Development Course was instituted. Since 2002, current teachers also have the opportunity to conduct research and take night classes in the Curriculum Development Course. These night classes are offered at satellite classrooms in Takayama, Kakamigahara, Ogaki, and also in Kumamoto prefecture.
Graduate School for Professionals in Education strives to equip current professionals with the tools to contribute, as educational leaders in their schools, to the development of present educational practices. Upon completion of the course, students are conferred the degree of Master of Education. The curricula are designed to build well-rounded teachers through courses which develop the versatility needed for leadership in lesson development, school reform, and clinical psychology in education, while considering the practical development of school organization and leadership in education.

The principles of agricultural science are: in an ecological system called Earth, to preserve environment; to develop comprehensive scientific technologies and cultures based on the production of foods and biological materials; and to contribute to the existence and welfare of mankind. Agricultural science is an integrated science based on the relationship between biological production, which is essential to human life, and human society, consisting mainly of biological science, biological resources science, environmental science, life science and social science. (in Charter of Agricultural Science, Japan, 2002)
The Graduate School aims to cultivate researchers and professional engineers/technologists with highly professional ability, abundant academic knowledge and a broad perspective of science related to Biological (animals, plants, and microbial products) Resources, Biological Environment and Biological Resources, and thereby to contribute to the advancement of agricultural science and development of biological-resources-related industries. The Graduate School provides education to allow students to acquire extensive knowledge of agricultural science and to conduct a research on a given subject and seek a solution, and furthermore to develop the ability to solve problems and the ability to discover research subjects that can be exercised in the boundary fields and multidisciplinary fields. The Graduate School also welcomes overseas applicants who are willing to learn and acquire advanced agricultural technologies and science.

Library
The University Library plays an important part in our university, pro-viding the faculty members and the students with large collection of books, periodicals and other materials from inside and outside of the country for their research activities.
The history of the library started with the foundation of Gifu University in May 1949. Today the library consists of two divisions; the Central and the Medical Libraries now closed. The former was reorganized in July 1984 by annexing two branch libraries, is located on the main campus of Yanagido. The latter was established in April 1965 for School of Medicine, is placed on the campus of Tsukasa.
One of the characteristic features in the University Library is a device to centralize the management of the one divisions so that they can be function- ally well organized and administrated under the Director of the University Library.
The Library adopts the system of the so-called open-stack, which enables faculty members and students to browse freely among bookstacks.
To facilitate various library services, the Library has been automated in almost all library functions; acquisition, cataloging, circulation, payment, bibliographic data retrieval, and information retrieval.
The co11ecion of the library has already exceeded more than 880,000 volumes, to which about 20,000 acquisitions are added annually. This co11ection consists of over 580,000 volumes of Japanese books and 300,000 volumes of foreign books, including 17,000 periodical titles.
