Kyushu University  is the largest public university on the island of Kyūshū. It is located in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka.Despite the incorporation which has led to increased financial independence and autonomy, Kyushu University is still partly controlled by the Japanese Ministry of Education (Monbukagakusho, or Monkasho). There are a total of 1,292 foreign students (as of May 1, 2008) enrolled in the University. It is among the top 3 (after Tokyo University and Osaka University) destinations for foreign students.
The Faculty of Law, Kyushu University initiated Japan's first English language LL.M program in October 1994. Taught from a Japanese perspective, the one year program offers students the opportunity to study international economic and business law, and Japanese and comparative law in a Japanese law faculty. A three-year LL.D. program and another one-year Master’s course in Comparative Studies of Politics and Administration in Asia (CSPA) were launched in October 1999. As a result of the success of these programs, in 2001, Kyushu University was invited by the Ministry of Education to host the Young Leader's Program in Law, a program which, among others, seeks to foster good relations among future national leaders in Asia and other countries. In 2009, it was again selected by the Ministry of Education to host a Bilingual Program in law (LL.M). This unique master aims to overcome barriers of language and culture in the field of international law. This is achieved through law classes conducted in both Japanese and English, an internship, as well as a thesis written in both languages. Its first batch of students graduated in 2010.

History

Kyushu University was initially founded as Fukuoka Medical College in 1903 and was associated with Kyoto Imperial University. Kyūshū Imperial University was established as a separate entity in 1911.
Following World War II, Kyūshū Imperial University gained infamy as officials acknowledged that eight American POWs (Crew of B-29 Superfortress) had been vivisected at Kyūshū Imperial University Hospital in May and June, 1945 under the direction of the Japanese military and Professor Fukujiro Ishiyama. In 1947, Kyūshū Imperial University was renamed to Kyushu University.
On October, 2003, Kyushu University and Kyūshū Institute of Design officially amalgamated into a single university, with Kyushu Institute of Design becoming Kyushu University's Ohashi Campus.
In 2004 Kyushu University was incorporated as a national university corporation under a new law which applies to all national universities.

Kyushu University Hospital

-->
Kyushu University Hospital South Ward (opened in 2002) and North Ward (opened in 2006)

The main objectives of the Kyushu University Hospital are to provide advanced, integrated, and patient-centered health care services for the whole person, as well as to contribute to the training of doctors, dentists and other health care service staff in the 21st century.
The Kyushu University Hospital was inaugurated in October, 2003, by integrating three hospitals in Kyushu University: The University Hospital attached to the Faculty of Medicine (Medical Hospital), University Dental Hospital attached to the Faculty of Dentistry (Dental Hospital), and the Hospital of the Medical Institute of Bioregulation (MIB Hospital).
The foundations of the Medical Hospital date back to the beginning of 20th century. It was established in 1903 as a hospital attached to the Fukuoka Medical College of Kyoto Imperial University. It was later attached to the Medical College of Kyushu Imperial University in 1911. The Dental Hospital originated in 1922 and was founded in 1967 with the establishment of the Faculty of Dentistry. The MIB Hospital originated in 1931 and was founded in 1982 as a hospital attached to the Medical Institute of Bioregulation at Beppu, distant from the Katakasu

Campus. The MIB Hospital has now been reorganized into Advanced Medical Center at Beppu.
A new hospital complex is under construction at Katakasu Campus. Two of the three new buildings were completed in 2001 and 2006, respectively, and two-third of the Medical Hospital has already moved into the new building. Another building will be finished in 2009. The Medical and Dental Hospitals have moved into the same building.
At present there are 640 doctors, 251 dentists, 884 trained nurses and 582 related staff members working at the hospital. The hospital has 41 clinics with 1,415 beds. In 2005 the hospital served more than 425,956 in-patients and averaged 2,336 out-patients per day.

Admissions Information
Those who wish to attend Kyushu University must pass the admissions test administered by the niversity before being accepted for enrollment. The only exceptions to this rule are international students on Japanese government scholarships.
With different methods, depending on the faculty and graduate school course, a special admissions test system is available for foreign applicants. In addition, there are some faculties that recognize transfer students through their own tests.
Applicants can also enroll as research students to gain a preparatory education prior to enrolling in the graduate school, and then apply for our graduate school after becoming familiar with research and living in Japan.

Enrolling as a Research Student

Research Students, Academic Students
Distinct research student and academic student systems were established to provide for those who wish to pursue specific research projects in undergraduate school, graduate schools, language and culture research centers, etc. The period for research is set to within one year. Research students are accepted for undergraduate and graduate school studies, while academic students are accepted for undergraduate studies. The admission period is the beginning of the semester, but in special cases permission may be given to join later during the semester.
When students wish to continue research, their stay can be extended by following the required procedures.
Once research is complete, students may request issuance of certificates to document the research.

Auditors
Auditors are those who wish to audit specific courses in undergraduate or graduate schools. Approval for auditors is given by semester or grade.
